 Best In Self Defense

Thank you for visiting MaxDefense, your leading authority in reality-based self defense! You have taken your first step to becoming your own personal body guard, to being capable of defending yourself against would-be attackers.

What distinguishes our self defense training system from others?  In your very first session, you will practice defending yourself in authentic, heart-pumping simulations of real-life threats.  This training will prepare you to use your spike in adrenaline to your advantage and end a violent attack in a definitive manner. You will also learn to defuse potentially escalating situations but, in the worst case, you will stand prepared to defend yourself, if necessary.

In just a few hours, MaxDefense will teach you to back down most aggressors without any physical force. You will learn to harness your adrenaline, rather than be overcome by it, in order to successfully defend yourself against a larger and stronger attacker. In fact, you can understand and start utilizing our basic core system within your first seminar or class. Our instructors will teach you a cutting edge curriculum that covers pre-contact psychology, fear management, and explosive techniques, which were created to end an attack quickly with maximum effectiveness and efficiency.

We encourage you to come and be a part of something that is life-changing and life-saving. Expect the very best in life but be prepared for the unexpected.

Team MaxDefense

First Step In Self Defense

Fight, Flight or Freeze

When a predator attacks, your body typically goes into an adrenal state. You are flooded with adrenaline (epinephrine), noradrenaline and cortisol. The good news is these chemicals perform several positive actions in the body that make them very effective. They dilate the pupils to increase the amount of light that enters the eyes, cause sweating to help dissipate heat, increase blood flow to the muscles, increase the heart rate and force of contraction, and make glucose available in the blood for use by other organs. Despite our bodies best effort without proper training a surge of these chemicals can cause the body to freeze.

 Fighting Through The Freeze

When adrenaline and emotions spin out of control, the mind freezes and it is impossible to perform complicated movements such as kicks, strikes and grappling throws taught in most martial arts and karate schools. Violent attacks are over within seconds and you have to act quickly with instinctive principles and techniques. You can not afford to freeze, your most valuable asset, your life, is at stake.

The building blocks at MaxDefense are movements that are based on engaging gross motor skills under duress. From that basis we build on our more detailed system that gives you the very best in self defense! It is very simple: competence breeds confidence, so it makes sense that the more confident you are in defending yourself, the less you will be affected by stress.

What The F.B.I. Says About Self Defense

"It is extremely difficult to control one's biological, psychological, and emotional reactions to life and death circumstances. But it is even more difficult to do so without adequate, realistic, and prior training--along with proper mental and physical preparation. Training often determines which persons survive and which ones suffer injury or death. Training that is realistic, repetitive, understandable, and believable potentially reduces the non-adaptive effects of [human behavior]. In preparing for a highly-charged emotional event, effective and realistic training can reduce its intensity (levels of arousal), allowing higher cognitive functioning to prevail." - Violent Encounters (U.S. Dept. of Justice; 2006)

When you were deciding what you wanted to do in life you more than likely prepared yourself for it. Whether it was college, self education, finding a mentor, you prepared yourself for the future. Take this same life principle and apply it to your education in self defense. You will be surprised how little time it takes for you to protect your most valuable asset.

Remember this: there is no cheating when it comes to life or death, so when the time has come for you to engage, give it everything you have. Find an instructor that teaches this mantra. One who teaches to manipulate the body’s vulnerable areas such as, the eyes, ears, throat, neck, groin, etc., as their basis in what they teach, and when you do, train like you mean it!

Core Principles in reality-based self defense that are a must:

    • Avoid injury – You can not protect you or others when you are injured
    • Do not place yourself in compromising situations
    • Determine your aggressor by biological cues
    • Once aggressor is determined use an offensive defense principle (strike first)
    • Use natural movements of body
    • Use the most devastating techniques to the vulnerable areas of your attacker
    • When attacked be the conqueror – Have a warriors mindset
